Key Learning Outcomes

By completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Read and interpret joinery drawings, cutting lists, and workplace specifications.

  • Select, measure, mark out, and prepare timber and manufactured boards for joinery work.

  • Use and maintain joinery tools and machines safely, including power tools and fixed machinery.

  • Construct and assemble joinery components such as doors, windows, frames, cabinets, and furniture sections.

  • Install joinery and fittings on-site, ensuring correct alignment, fixing, and finishing.

  • Apply safe work practices and ensure compliance with WHS requirements, including dust and noise control.

Course Completion

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be awarded the Certificate III in Joinery (CPC31920), qualifying them for employment in the joinery and construction fit out industry.

Delivery Modes

This course follows a blended learning model, which includes:

  • 15 hours of face-to-face training per week.

  • 5 hours of structured online learning per week.

  • Additional self-study of approximately 5 hours per week.

Assessment

A combination of assessment techniques is used to ensure students meet industry standards, including:

  • Trainer-led demonstrations and practical exercises.

  • Individual projects, case studies, and research tasks.

  • Role-playing activities and practical workshop or site simulations.

  • Group work and collaborative tasks.

Articulation and Pathway

This qualification provides a direct entry pathway into the joinery, cabinet making, and construction fit out industry. Graduates may also choose to continue their education through:

  • CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).

  • Trade apprenticeships for further specialisation in joinery, cabinet making, or shopfitting.

RPL and Exemptions

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and credit transfers are available and must be applied for at the letter of offer stage or during enrolment.

  • Students with relevant work experience in joinery or cabinet making may qualify for exemptions in specific units.

  • A fee is applicable for RPL assessment.
