Course Description
This qualification reflects the role of an individual working as a senior civil works designer or a para-professional designer, who supports professional engineers. They perform tasks that are broad, specialised, complex and technical and include strategic areas and initiating activities. They are responsible for the design of complex projects to ensure the implementation of the client’s site requirements and are required to demonstrate self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge and initiate solutions to technical problems or management requirements.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this qualification can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with the relevant body before applying for the qualification.

Entry Requirements
Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of course commencement.
Assessment & Interview: Some prospective students may be required to undertake a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment or participate in an enrolment interview prior to acceptance.
Educational Qualifications:
- Musthave completed Australian Year 12 or an equivalent level of schooling, or
- Holda Certificate IV or higher qualification from an Australian
Delivery Modes
Waratah Polytechnic uses a blended learning methodology combining classroom-based learning and structured online training as studies show blended learning improves student’s interaction and satisfaction as well as increase learning outcomes. Delivery involves 20 hours per week total tuition with 15 hours/week of classroom-based delivery on campus and 5 hours/week of structured online training with the trainer each week.
Course Completions
Students obtaining a ‘Competent’ result for all the units in this qualification will achieve an Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design. A statement of attainment will be issued only for the units in which a student has been found ‘‘Competent’.
Assesment
Each unit will be assessed in at least 2 different ways (for example research, assignments, projects, case studies, demonstrations and presentations and workplace skills assessments) unless otherwise required by the unit of competency.
Course Structure
The program consists of 12 units of competency, which include 5 core units and 7 elective units. These are delivered over a total duration of 104 weeks, with 80 weeks dedicated to tuition and 24 weeks allocated for holidays. All units of competency must be successfully completed in order to receive the Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design Certificate.
